Individual Bitcoin ownership has fallen to roughly 51% of the total supply. This fall increases the fear of Bitcoin’s centralization.
Individual owners contribute towards the decentralization of Bitcoin’s tokenomics.

Financial Institutions
Financial holdings of institutions are divided into ETF and non-ETF companies.
Among ETF companies, BlackRock IBIT owns the highest share at 700,306 BTC, which is 3.33% of total Bitcoin holdings.
Among non-ETF financial institutions, Strategy holds the highest 597,325 Bitcoins, accounting for 2.84% of the total supply.

ETFs and Publicly Owned Funds
ETFs are soon expected to become the largest owners of Bitcoin due to their fast growth.
The total ETF holding is approximately 1,257,975 Bitcoins worldwide, accounting for 5.7% of the total Bitcoin supply.
US and European ETFs are holding approximately 1,239,535 Bitcoins. Hong Kong Bitcoin ETFs own another 18,440 Bitcoins.
All of this has been built in the last 18 months, starting from January 2024.

Non-ETF Corporations

Governments
Currently, only five governments hold Bitcoin. However, multiple others are rumoured to be building Bitcoin Reserves.
Germany once held 48,860 Bitcoins, which it sold for $2.26 billion in 2024.

The legendary figure is untraceable to date.

Currently, Bitcoin has mined approximately 94.36% of its total supply, leaving around 5.64% or 1.12 million unmined BTC.
A total of 21 million Bitcoins will be mined, and the last mined Bitcoin is expected to be mined around the mid-22nd century.
